Bert Collins Boxing Club celebrates victories at home event
Bert Collins Boxing Club hosted a successful tournament in Springs where its boxers delivered standout performances, winning multiple bouts and showcasing their hard work and discipline.
The Bert Collins Boxing Club in Springs hosted a lively tournament at their clubhouse on October 4, welcoming clubs from Kwatsaduza, Ekurhuleni and Johannesburg. Thirteen bouts took place, giving all boxers the opportunity to showcase their skills.
Four boxers from Bert Collins, JT Mienie, Mizandre Knoetze, Eugene Scholtz and Muhammad Ngcobo, emerged victorious. Mienie secured a 3–0 points win while Knoetze also defeated his opponent with a 3–0 points decision.
Scholtz, coming off a previous defeat in Kimberley, showed determination and preparation, winning 3–0.
Ngcobo dominated his bout against Lebohang Mokoena with a commanding 3–0 points victory in a challenging three-round fight, each round lasting three minutes.
Speaking to the Springs Advertiser, Ngcobo said, “I didn’t expect my opponent to come at me full speed. I stuck to my game plan and did my best.
“I also managed to keep my hands up, which is usually a struggle for me in other fights. This win, along with the club’s success, shows that our training is paying off.”
Head coach Jeanette Dyzel praised the team, saying, “Our boxers showcased their talent brilliantly this weekend. I could not be prouder of them or our incredible supporters. The teamwork and encouragement were truly inspiring.”
Coaches Frans van der Linde and Minnet Kritzinger also expressed pride in the fighters’ dedication, courage and discipline, noting that their hard work was clearly visible in the ring.
