Springs Boys’ High upholds proud tradition with upcoming Remembrance Day

Springs Boys’ High School will once again honour its long-standing Remembrance Day tradition on November 11, bringing together past and present learners to reflect on patriotism and sacrifice.

Springs Boys’ High School will host its annual Remembrance Day on November 11, staying true to its long-standing tradition of honouring patriotism, sacrifice and a call for peace.

The event will bring together past and present staff and learners and the Springs community.

The school’s principal, Diane Freeman, says Remembrance Day serves not only as an opportunity to educate about historical events but also to promote the values of empathy, gratitude and service above self.

“In line with the school’s motto Esto Perpetua (be eternal), the celebration encourages young men to strive for unity, especially in defence of the weak.

“Our learners are the future of world diplomacy. This event cements our commitment to providing quality education that focuses on problem-solving and a strong work ethic,” she said.

This day has been commemorated since the school’s inception in 1940. Over the years, the programme has evolved to incorporate military traditions and more modern customs, recognising the sacrifices made by many in the Springs community in various sectors.

The Wall of Remembrance, overlooking the school’s sports field, serves as a constant reminder of dedication.

“The learners take inspiration from the school’s strong legacy and the ability to overcome challenges when united by the school’s brotherhood”, she said.

The programme will include a performance by the Springs Boys’ High School Band and a formal address by the Representative Council of Learners.

The traditional bugle call of the Last Post will also be honoured. Anyone interested in attending may contact the school on 011 818 2175.
