Selcourt’s Eugene van Rensburg unveils bold Afrikaans pop rock track

Eugene’s new single carries a message of resilience and rising stronger, connecting with listeners across South Africa and abroad.

Eugene van Rensburg (45) from Selcourt is carving out a fresh space in contemporary Afrikaans music with a blend of pop, rock, and honest emotion that sets him apart.

Van Rensburg told the Springs Advertiser that his latest single, released on November 7, Gooi My Vir Die Wolwe, which translates to “Throw Me to the Wolves”, is a fearless anthem about resilience and rising stronger.

Eugene shared that Sonet Shields from The Hope and Harmony Group wrote his latest single.

“She originally wrote it for another artist, but when I heard it, I knew it was meant for me. The song is about finding the strength to rise again when life throws you to the wolves,” said the singer.

He said his music bridges passion, honesty, and the power of storytelling, connecting deeply with audiences across South Africa and beyond.

The 45-year-old said that as an artist in today’s music industry, having real emotions makes him authentic.

He expressed that if a life experience didn’t happen to him, or he could not feel it, he would not sing it. Eugene added that fans can always tell when something is fake.

He said, “It is my boldest song yet. It’s not just about sound; it’s about confidence – showing the world who I really am as an artist and not holding back anymore.”

There are many platforms where people can access his music. Eugene said streaming makes it possible for anyone, anywhere, to hear one’s story.

He also said it has been incredible for him to be getting messages from fans in other countries who connect with Afrikaans music, adding that it is personal and global at the same time.

Eugene described social media as his offstage stage. It allows him to talk directly to fans and share real, behind-the-scenes moments. He loves how people connect not just to songs but to stories.

The singer shared that patience is one lesson he learnt in the industry. He said that the industry can test limits, but experienced that good things take time.

“You must stay focused, even when the road gets rough.”

From the song, Eugene wants his fans to know that they are stronger than they think. Even when people push them down, they must know they can rise higher than before, adding, not to let anyone define your limits.

He shared that he was working on new music. He has live shows coming soon, and his fans can expect a lot of energy and raw emotion on stage.

Eugene concluded by saying he wanted to keep pushing boundaries by blending genres, experimenting with new sounds, and staying true to his message.

“I see my music growing bolder, more fearless, and more personal.”
