Rehabilitation unit again wins top award

Life Springs Parkland Hospital’s rehabilitation unit was again crowned unit of the year, celebrating excellence in patient care and teamwork.

The Life Springs Parkland Hospital’s life rehabilitation unit was again named the life rehabilitation unit of the year at the annual Life Achiever Awards, the second time the unit has received this honour since it opened in 2023.

The awards recognise extraordinary people and teams who have put Life Healthcare’s values into practice at work and significantly contributed to the company’s strategy and objectives over the past 12 months.

The unit of the year award considers several criteria, including:
• clinical outcomes;
• efforts to enhance patient experience;
• effective management of people and finances;
• contributions to organisational growth;
• marketing services to health professionals;
• overall operational excellence.

Among those honoured was sister Busi Nkosi, who received a Life Healthcare Jakes Gerwel Achiever Award that recognises people who go beyond the call of duty.

“Busi exemplifies the highest standards of professionalism in nursing, consistently demonstrating a commitment to excellence in patient care.

“A standout example of her kindness was when she went above and beyond to support a patient being transferred to a rehabilitation centre,” the hospital’s marketing and communications officer, Elmien Barnard, explained.

Barnard explained that, understanding the emotional and practical challenges the patient faced, Busi bought toiletries and sweets to ensure he felt cared for during the transition.

“This simple yet thoughtful gesture made a significant difference in the patient’s experience, providing physical comfort and emotional support during a challenging time. Busi also visited the patient in her off-duty time,” Barnard said.

Earlier this year, she received the Great 100 Nurses Award. Life Healthcare bestows it to its top 100 nurses for their professionalism, compassion, clinical competence and leadership qualities.

“Life rehabilitation at Life Springs Parkland Hospital thanks the community, employees, allied workers, referring doctors and specialists for their support and hard work. Without them, this would not be possible,” Barnard concluded.
