Simeluluntu partners with SAPS and POWA to drive GBV education in Springs
The organisation launched its first 16 Days of Activism workshops, urging residents to stand together and take a pledge against abuse.
Simeluluntu NPC from Payneville launched their first workshops on November 25 for the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children campaign, which takes place from November 25 until December 10.
Various stakeholders, including Impala Refinery, the Springs SAPS and People Opposing Women Abuse (POWA), were part of the launch at Springs Secondary School.
Simeluluntu’s operations manager, Nceba Mnukwa, told the Springs Advertiser that the workshops aim to condemn gender-based violence (GBV) and educate men and women about the different kinds of abuse.
“We will undertake young men’s workshops where young men will receive lessons on working as a team to protect women and children. Young women workshop where they’ll receive lessons about vigilance where there’s danger,” said Mnukwa.
He also said that during the launch, they had a community pledge to the eradication of GBV and child abuse. He added that they encouraged each other as residents to unite against GBV, irrespective of their genders.
The women’s workshop will take place on December 13, and the men’s workshop will be on December 14 at the Blesbok in Slovo Park.
