EMPD nab suspects for immigration violation and property damage

The EMPD Eastern Region Task Team and Bronberg Precinct officers arrested two suspects during operations in Springs and Benoni.

The EMPD Eastern Region Task Team and Bronberg Precinct officers apprehended two men between December 8 and December 9 for malicious damage to property and contravention of the Immigration Act in the Springs and Benoni areas.

The EMPD stated that a suspicious man in Springs appeared visibly nervous upon noticing officers, after which the Eastern Region Task Team approached him.

When questioned, he admitted he did not have his identification, claiming his passport was delayed.

The EMPD said the officers arrested him for contravention of Section 49(1) of the Immigration Act (Act 13 of 2002). He was detained at the Springs Police Station.

Meanwhile, in Crystal Park (Benoni), the EMPD said the Bronberg Precinct officers acted on information regarding a suspect wanted for malicious damage to property.

The suspect was traced, positively identified, and arrested on the spot. He was detained at Crystal Park Police Station. Both suspects are expected to appear before the relevant magistrates’ courts soon.
