E-hailing driver fatally shot in Selection Park

The police are investigating a fatal shooting in Selection Park after a man was found dead in a car.

The body of a 39-year-old man was found in a Toyota Corolla on Nigel Road in Selection Park on November 25.

According to Springs police spokesperson Sergeant Charity Zwane, the SAPS received a report of the shooting and went to the scene, where they found the victim’s car parked on the road, with him seated in the front seat.

He had sustained a gunshot wound to his upper body.

“Security officers already on the scene apprehended two men, aged 38 and 40. One allegedly threw a firearm into a nearby residential yard while attempting to escape. The two are suspected of shooting the deceased,” she said.

The owner of Vampire Security, the security company whose officers were on the scene, said the deceased was an e-hailing driver.

He added that the two men had allegedly tried to hijack the driver of a Renault, but were thwarted when security officers arrived.

“When we arrived, the two criminals jumped out of the vehicle and tried to flee. They began shooting at us, but there were no fatalities or injuries. We chased after them and apprehended them,” he said.

Zwane said the police recovered two 9mm pistols, 17 rounds of live ammunition, four blank rounds, three empty cartridges, and a cellphone.

“The two men were arrested and detained at the Springs SAPS. They will soon appear in court,” she said.
