A big first day for Springs’ Grade One learners

From shy introductions to confident smiles, Grade One learners at local primary schools embraced their first day of school with enthusiasm and big ambitions.

As schools reopened on January 14, teachers at Laerskool Selection Park and Strubenvale Primary School were among the many educators welcoming new Grade One learners into classrooms for the first time.

Although visibly nervous at first, the learners soon began to relax, growing more excited as they met their teachers and new friends.

They became increasingly chatty when the Springs Advertiser asked about their favourite superheroes and what they were most excited to learn at school.

Laerskool Selection Park learners Ciara van Wyk (6) and Dene Ueckerman (6) were eager to share their dreams for the future.

“When I grow up, I want to be a teacher,” Ciara said, while Dene proudly shared her ambition to become a doctor.

Dihandre Giezing said he loves the Transformers character Bumblebee and hopes to build his own one day, while his seatmate, Oratile Dlamini, said Hulk is his favourite superhero because he wants to be strong like him.

The visit then continued to Strubenvale Primary School, where learners showed great enthusiasm as they eagerly took on the task of drawing pictures of themselves.

As they settled into their classrooms, the learners began socialising, smiling and forming new friendships, marking the start of their school journey.
