Six arrested in Springs and Nigel during EMPD operation

EMPD officers arrested six suspects during a morning operation in Springs and Nigel, including a motorist driving under the influence.

On the morning of January 17, the EMPD eastern region task team and tracing unit officers arrested six men for different offenses in the Springs and Nigel areas.

One was nabbed for driving under the influence of substances suspected to be narcotics, and five undocumented men were also arrested.

The EMPD said that the tracing unit officers arrested the five for not having any form of identification in the Nigel area.

The EMPD added that in the Springs area, the eastern region task team officer arrested a man for driving recklessly.

“When officers stopped the motor vehicle, the driver had a strong smell of alcohol; a breathalyser was used, and the driver was over the limit,” said the metro police.

The metro police explained that he was then taken to the nearest health centre for blood samples and later detained at Springs SAPS. All the arrested suspects are expected to appear before the magistrates’ court.
