New members join as Springs seniors return to bingo tables

New members joined long-standing regulars as the club continues to grow.

The Springs Senior Citizens Club hosted their first bingo session for the year on February 3. The session was attended by 31 members, including new members of the club. One of the new members was Cherryl Berry (71) from Petersfield Extension.

Speaking to the Springs Advertiser during their tea break, she said that as a retiree, she wanted something that would keep her busy. She said that she read about the club and some of the activities they offer in The Addie.

“I also joined because I wanted to meet new people and create new friendships.

“There were some line dancers that were at my church recently and since they are professionals, I could not keep up then one of the ladies told me that there was a beginner’s class here at the club,” said Berry.

As she participated in her first bingo game, she said she was having a great time and there are lovely people that she has met, and meeting new people and socialising has been the greatest part of being a club member.

The club manager, Pauline Houghton, told the publication that the club membership has grown from 150 to 170 members and it has allowed the club to have additional activities.

She also said as the bingo is attended by the seniors, it helps them stimulate as they focus on the numbers and listen to what is said.

“It has been exciting to see some of the old members back at the club as we have entered the new year and it is about having our community come together and have some fun.”
