Springs Rugby Club second team opens season with win over Wanderers

Springs Rugby Club kicked off their season against Wanderers Rugby Club in Johannesburg, with the second team claiming a narrow 7–0 win despite storm interruptions.

The Springs Rugby Club kicked off the season with a game against Wanderers, which took place in Johannesburg on February 14.

The first team suffered a 52-26 defeat.

The second team celebrated a victory. Coach Richard Louw shared with the Springs Advertiser that the first 15 minutes were marked by ups and downs, adding that opportunities to score tries from both teams were missed.

A try from Felix Chiemerie and the conversion made by Steven Kok led to the 7-0 win. A few minutes before half-time, the lightning sirens went off, and the game was paused.

Louw said that the teams were able to resume their game and played just 15 minutes of good rugby, putting all their reserves on the field.

“It was a very hard game; it ended in a bit of a competitive spirit where the two teams just wanted to attack each other, but we were able to sort it out. I’m very proud of my guys for a good game,” said the coach.

He said the team will take every game as it comes and work towards improving.
