LETTER: Springs community praised for supporting Presidentia’s elderly residents

The letter highlights ongoing community efforts to maintain safety and dignity for seniors.

Springs resident writes by email:

Following the recent Carte Blanche episode on May 3, in which Serenity Senior Services was featured, we believe it is essential that the broader Springs community also receives recognition for the vital role they have played in supporting the upkeep, safety, and dignity of the residents of Presidentia.

While the programme highlighted certain aspects of the situation, it did not reflect the extraordinary contributions made by individuals and companies in Springs who have stood by our elderly residents during an extremely challenging period. It is our wish to publicly honour and thank them.

For nearly two years, Herman from All Time Plumbing has attended to every plumbing need at Presidentia, repairing toilets, unblocking drains, fixing leaking taps, replacing water pipes, and ensuring that our kitchens and bathrooms remain functional.

Their commitment has been unwavering, and their service has been rendered with compassion and professionalism.

We also extend our deepest appreciation to Jaco from SAPS, who stepped in immediately after the brutal attacks that occurred at Presidentia.

For almost two years, they have protected our residents, ensuring their safety and restoring a sense of security and dignity. Their presence has been a lifeline to our elderly community.

Our heartfelt thanks also go to Gold 1, who generously donated paint to restore and repaint our community hall. This contribution has uplifted the spirits of our residents and helped restore pride in their living environment.

From the bottom of our hearts, we thank these organisations. Without their support, dedication, and kindness, none of what we have achieved would have been possible.

At the same time, we appeal to the Springs community to please get involved. While we continue to wait for Ekurhuleni to commence the necessary maintenance, many of our elderly residents are struggling with even the most basic needs, including food.

We know the people of Springs care deeply for their elderly and want what is best for them. Any assistance, whether through donations, volunteering, or community involvement, will make a meaningful difference.

Editor’s note: An enquiry was sent to the City of Ekurhuleni on May 5, but no response was received at the time of publication.
