FOLLOW UP: Substations in Selection Park cleared following resident complaints

The clean-up follows complaints about neglected infrastructure and power issues in the area.

Two substations in Selection Park have been cleaned by the City of Ekurhuleni.

The clean-up comes after two articles by the Springs Advertiser in April, ‘Selection Park residents raise safety concerns over neglected substation’ and ‘Calls grow for action on neglected substation in Springs’, where residents complained about the conditions of the substations.

Although the city has not responded to an enquiry from the Advertiser, residents report that the overgrown grass in the substations has been cut.

Residents on Gihooley Road said that the substation was last maintained in December 2024 and that the area suffers from power surges from time to time.

“Residents have reported the condition of the substation, but nothing has been done by the City of Ekurhuleni,” said one resident.

Regarding the second substation, Retha van Zyl said that she has reported it to Ekurhuleni several times, but to no avail. Van Zyl thanked the publication for reaching out to the city.
