Three SOB junior teams set for Eastern league finals showdown

Junior chairperson Rudolph Lizemore said it is a historic moment for the club with three teams reaching the finals.

The Springs Old Boys Cricket junior teams will seal the season and will be looking for wins this coming Sunday with three games.

The teams will be playing in the finals of the Eastern Junior Club Cricket Association league at Willowmore Park Stadium in Benoni, where the U10 and U12 Impalas will face Benoni Northerns, and the U14 Impalas will take on Geluksdal Cricket Club.

The junior chairperson and head coach of the U14 Impala team, Rudolph Lizemore, shared with the Springs Advertiser that it has been a fantastic season for the club.

He congratulated the three Impala/Super League teams that have made it to the finals. He said it is an incredible achievement and a reward for all the hard work, training, and determination shown throughout the season.

“This is a truly special moment, as it is the first time in SOB history and the first time since Covid that any club has three teams playing Super League finals on the main oval – something our whole community can be proud of,” said Lizemore.

He also took a moment to congratulate every single team that participated this season, noting that the commitment, sportsmanship, and passion shown by all their players have been incredible to watch.

He encouraged the teams whose journey ended before the semi-finals to hold their heads high.

“Every match played, every run scored, and every ball bowled is part of your growth as players. Success in sport is not only measured by trophies but also by the lessons learned, the friendships built, and the courage to keep showing up and giving your best,” shared Lizemore.

Lizemore expressed to the teams that reached the semi-finals but unfortunately didn’t make it through to the finals that, as a club, they were extremely proud of them. He said making it that far takes dedication and heart, and they represented themselves, their families, and the club with pride.

“We would also like to extend a sincere thank you to all the parents, coaches, volunteers, and supporters who stepped up, raised their hands, and helped wherever needed. Your time, encouragement, and commitment are what make it possible for these young players to grow, learn, and enjoy the game.

“Every game, win or lose, is an opportunity for our kids to learn valuable life lessons,” noted the junior chairperson.

The club invites the Springs community to come and support the three Impala teams, who have played their hearts out and will be competing in the finals. Tickets will be sold at the stadium. SOB encourages the community to fill the stands, show their support, and celebrate these amazing young players together.

“Good luck to our finalists, and we are incredibly proud of you.”
