EMPD arrests fraud suspect, recovers hijacked vehicles in Benoni and Springs

The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department recovered a hijacked VW Polo Vivo in Chief Albert Luthuli and arrested a 50-year-old fraud suspect in Springs, confiscating a Nissan LDV linked to the case.

The EMPD recently arrested a 50-year-old man suspected of fraud and recovered two reported hijacked vehicles in the Benoni and Springs areas.

According to the EMPD, upon following up on information received about a white VW Polo Vivo that had been hijacked the previous evening in Crystal Park, the vehicle was found abandoned at the corner of Cloverdene and Equator streets in the Chief Albert Luthuli area.

“The vehicle was tested and confirmed to have been hijacked,” the EMPD said.

Meanwhile, in Springs, they arrested a wanted suspect for fraud and confiscated a white Nissan LDV.

“It is alleged that the suspect fraudulently registered the vehicle without the owner’s knowledge,” the EMPD said.

The suspect was detained at the Benoni Police Station, as the case is being investigated in Benoni.
