Three killed after taxi overturns following suspected shooting in Eastvale

Three people died after a taxi lost control and overturned, allegedly following a shooting incident on the Etwatwa off-ramp in Eastvale.

Three people died after a taxi lost control and overturned this morning (Tuesday), allegedly as a result of a shooting incident on the Etwatwa off-ramp in Eastvale.

One of the injured passengers is reported to be an SAPS member who was on their way to work.

According to Springs police spokesperson, Sergeant Charity Zwane, the police responded to a report of a shooting.

“Upon arrival, they found a white taxi that had lost control and overturned, allegedly as a result of a shooting. Multiple cartridges were found at the scene,” she said.

She adds that a man identified as the driver, along with two passengers, was certified dead at the scene by emergency medical services.

“Other passengers who sustained injuries were transported to the hospital for medical treatment.

“It was established that one of the victims taken for medical treatment is a SAPS member who was going to work at the time of the incident,” she said.

The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation.
