Mixed fortunes for Springs Tigers but key age groups continue strong form
The Springs Tigers' junior teams delivered a mix of strong performances and tough lessons, with the U7L4 and U17 sides extending their impressive runs.
Springs Tigers experienced a weekend of mixed fortunes across their junior teams, with several age groups producing impressive performances despite some challenging results.
The club’s U7L2 side delivered one of the most exciting matches of the weekend, holding log leaders Highlands Park to a thrilling 4–4 draw.
The club told Springs Advertiser that the result showcased the team’s determination against one of the league’s strongest sides.
The U7L3 team faced a difficult task against Benoni Northerns and went down 6–2 after playing the entire match with one player fewer than their opponents.
There was more success for the U7L4 side, who continued their outstanding season with a 5–3 victory over WIFA.

The win extended their perfect record to five wins from five matches and ensured they remained at the top of the league standings.
U7L4’s head coach, Shafick Jaffar said that he is proud of his team for securing their fifth consecutive league victory. He added that their dedication, hard work, and resilience continue to shine through in every match.
“This past weekend brought a tough challenge against WIFA FC. It was a highly competitive game, but our boys showed great character, determination, and teamwork throughout.
“Their exceptional performance saw them push through and earn a well-deserved 5-3 victory,” shared the coach.
The Tigers’ U8 team also impressed, securing a convincing 4–0 victory over Athletico Lions. The result means they have now won seven of their eight matches this season, underlining their strong campaign.

The U9 side suffered a 9–2 defeat to African Tigers, while the U10 team lost 2–0 to Bonaero. For the U11 team, the weekend brought their first setback of the season as they were beaten 4–0 by Mercurial Stars. Despite the loss, they have enjoyed a strong campaign so far.
The U12 team had a bye and did not play this weekend. The club expressed that they continue to perform well this season and currently occupy second place on the log.
The U13 and U15 teams both faced a strong Diambars side, losing 7–2 and 9–0, respectively.
The club expressed that one of the standout performances of the weekend came from the U17 team, who maintained their excellent form with a dominant 7–0 victory over Alberton FC.
The club said that the result keeps them firmly at the top of the log as they continue their pursuit of league honours.
