Springs drug bust: Dagga worth R40 000 recovered by Benoni Flying Squad
A suspicious vehicle on Welgedacht Road attracted the attention of Benoni Flying Squad members, resulting in a drug arrest and the recovery of a significant dagga consignment.
Benoni Flying Squad members arrested six suspects and recovered dagga valued at around R70 000 between June 16 and 21.
A major recovery was made in Springs on June 21 at about 09:00 when members patrolling along Welgedacht Road (R555) noticed a black Toyota Corolla being towed by another vehicle.
According to Warrant Officer Grant Giblin, media liaison officer for Gauteng Police Emergency Services, the vehicles were pulled over and searched.
The 32-year-old driver of the Corolla was immediately arrested when six large bags of dagga were found in the boot.
The man was detained at Springs SAPS and the dagga with an estimated value of R40 000 was booked in as an exhibit.

In a separate incident in Etwatwa, two men, both aged 32, were arrested after members recovered 15 bags of dagga, valued at around R30 000 from a vehicle.
A bribery charge was added after one of the men offered members R1 000.
Three individuals, aged 22 to 42 years, were also arrested by members for drug-related offences in Kempton Park.
Crystal methamphetamine and mandrax were recovered in these separate incidents.
The suspects will appear in the local magistrate’s courts facing charges relating to possession of and dealing in drugs, as well as bribery where applicable.
