Presidentia Retirement Village seniors stay active with chair dancing and games

Serenity Senior Services introduces fun movement classes and social gatherings to promote healthy living among local pensioners.

Residents of Presidentia Retirement Village enjoy social and recreational activities that bring people together, encourage creativity, and promote healthy living, with support from Serenity Senior Services.

Every second Wednesday of the month, residents gather in the hall for knitting and crochet get-togethers.

Serenity Senior Services’ Renette Kirsten told the Springs Advertiser that the sessions allow residents to showcase their talents, share ideas, learn from one another, and spend quality time together in a warm atmosphere.

Kirsten said they have also introduced chair dancing sessions, allowing residents to participate in gentle exercise safely.

“Regular exercise plays an important role in maintaining the health and mobility of older persons, and these sessions help residents stay active while having fun,” Kirsten said.

F”ollowing the activities, everyone enjoys tea and refreshments, creating an opportunity to socialise, make new friends, and strengthen residents’ bonds,” she said.

Another popular activity is bingo, which has quickly become a favourite among residents, bringing laughter, excitement, and friendly competition.

Kirsten added that supporters and donors sponsor the modest prizes, but the joy and togetherness experienced during gatherings are priceless.

She noted that through these activities, they continue to make a positive difference in senior citizens’ lives by encouraging social interaction, creativity, physical well-being, and a strong sense of community.
