Springs Farmers Market welcomes spring with good food and community spirit
Springs residents enjoyed various crafts and food stalls including live entertainment at the Springs Farmer's Market.
The spring season was properly welcomed on September 13 at the Springs Farmers Market (SFM) hosted at President’s Park.
The event featured food stalls, breakfast, arts and crafts, a jumping castle and play area for children. Chrissie Oosthuizen performed live. SFM is a weekly market by the Springs community for the Springs community.
“The market is well attended and stands for vendors are very popular. Since its launch in March 2023, it has experienced an increase in attendance,” said coordinator Fanie van Deventer.
He talked about what it means to witness the market’s growth over the years.
“The fact that it has been a regular market every Saturday, and only fresh, homemade and handmade products are sold at the market, the increase in regular customers is amazing,” he said.
The committee running the administration of the market includes Fanie, his wife Verneen van Deventer, Johann Jungbauer and Gert Roslee.
“A share of all stall fees are donated to the Springs Mine and Military Museum for the maintenance of the museum and the cleaning and maintenance of the toilet facilities at the museum,” he shared.
Fanie encouraged the community to support local entrepreneurs and small businesses.
“The community’s support for entrepreneurs and small businesses holds significant value for the community itself. It not only promotes skills development but also helps put food on the tables of fellow Springs residents,” he said.
