Selcourt Primary learners educated on e-waste and importace of recycling
Reclite SA marked International E-Waste Day at Selcourt Primary School with an informative lesson on recycling and e-waste.
To mark International E-Waste Day, Reclite SA held an electronic waste collection drive, an educational session, and handed over a dedicated recycling bin at Selcourt Primary School on October 14.
The Germiston-based company and specialist electronic and hazardous waste recycler collected unwanted electronics the school had accumulated in the days leading up to the event.
It also held two educational sessions to explain what e-waste is, why it needs responsible handling, and how learners can help keep discarded electronics out of general waste.
The donated bin will remain at the school with Reclite SA servicing it regularly to support ongoing collection and recycling.
“Giving learners an understanding of e-waste, together with somewhere to collect it, helps them put what they have learned into practice.

“We will continue collecting from the school so that the materials reach our facility for responsible treatment and recycling,” said the marketing manager, Louise Cousins.
She added that old phones, computers, cables, and other discarded electrical and electronic products contain materials that can be recovered and reused.
Some also contain hazardous components that require specialist handling, making it important to keep them separate from general rubbish.
“The initiative gives Selcourt Primary a continuing role in responsible e-waste collection beyond the awareness day, supported by regular servicing of the bin,” Cousins concluded.
