NOTICE OF APPLICATION FOR A WATER USE LICENSE FOR SAFAIR OPERATIONS (PTY) LTD: GROUNDWATER ABSTRACTION ON FARM PORTION RE/282 OF WITKOPPIE 64 IR, CITY OF EKHURHULENI, GAUTENG PROVINCE. Notice is hereby given in terms of Section 41 (4) of the National Water Act, 1998 (Act No. 36 of 1998)
of an application to the Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) for a Water Use License (WUL) for the proposed groundwater abstraction on Safair property at the O.R Tambo Internation Airport. The DWS reference number for this application is WU47468. PROJECT DESCRIPTION Safair Operations (Pty) Ltd (hereafter referred to as Safair) proposed to abstract water from three boreholes (SAFBH1, SAFBH2, SAFBH3) located on their property, on Northern Perimeter Road, O.R Tambo International Airport in Kempton Park. The application is for abstraction of 23725 m3/annum (0.024 Mm3/annum) groundwater for irrigation and potable water. The groundwater abstracted from the three boreholes will be used for irrigation of landscaped areas, as well as a source of potable water (domestic, toilet flushing, etc.) for approximately 1400 people. LOCATION The boreholes are located on Portion (RE/282) of Farm Witkoppie 64 IR, a Safair property situated at O.R Tambo International Airport, in the City of Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality, Gauteng Province. The three boreholes are located within two separate quaternary catchments, namely C21D and A21A, which fall within the Upper Vaal Water Management Area and the Limpopo Water Management Area, respectively.
