A fun and friendly tournament

Sappi Paper and Paper Packaging held a friendly soccer tournament on Friday at their grounds and invited various companies around Springs to get a team together and compete.

“Sappi decided to hold the tournament to promote good relations and sportsmanship between the different industries in our surroundings,” says junior storeman at Sappi, Jacob Kgasi.

The afternoon started with the match between the Far East Rand Hospital and Van Wyk’s Electrical in what proved to be a thrilling game.

The spectators were on the edge of their seats and very involved in the game which saw the FERH team gain majority possession of the ball.

One up on Van Wyk’s Electrical at the end of the match, FERH’s team won the game 1-0.

The second match took place between the Sappi team and FERH.

This match was a nail-biter and the teams were neck and neck through most of the game.

But the FERH were the winners once again when they managed to get another goal before the end of the match, bringing the score of the second match to a 3-2 win for them.

“The day went well as we were treated to good games of football. After the games we all got together in friendship and had a braai and just had a good time,” says Jacob.

Jacob also said they teams had such a good time and thought it was such a good idea that the FERH has promised to host another tournament early in November.
