Robyn is an archery champion
Robyn Barrows (18) is the new Junior National Indoor Archery champion.
She recently took part in the Ninth RSA National Indoor Championships held in Pretoria where she was crowned the champion.
Since she started archery in 2013 there is no stopping this young talented archer.
She is in matric this year at the Keep Learning Centre in Strubenvale, but nothing can stop her when she takes up her bow to compete.
She was also crowned the South African Junior Archery Champion of the year earlier this year.
Being the only archer from Springs entering the competition, she excelled among the 180 people taking part.
Robyn says there is more pressure at indoor events therefore she prefers it to outdoor events.
This is due to the distance and the fact that the centre of the target being much smaller when shooting indoors.
During the recent indoor championships, she says at one stage she was very nervous, but when she aims for the target she takes control.
“At this event the best archer shoots against the worst, which makes the competition interesting,” she says.
When Robyn reached the semi final stage, she wasn’t sure what awaited her.
But during the finals, although she was shaky and overwhelmed, she was better prepared and soon took control of her nerves.
She says her opponent freaked out during the final, which worked for Robyn as she started to relax and enjoy the event.
Being confident that she would beat her opponent cannot be compared to the experience when they handed over the junior women’s compound bow trophy and gold medal.
She will be competing in the Magnum Archery Outdoor Competition held in Pretoria on Saturday.
