A muddy cycle event
The Transvaal Galvanisers MTB Cycle race held on Sunday at Dalpark opposite Carnival City, turned out to be a wet and muddy challenge.
According to Athol Davis, the event organiser, the event went well despite the rainy weather.
Only 29 of those competeing in the 50km race finished the race with Marthinus Steyn in the first place with a time of 2.8:35.
Willie Human and Raymond van Deventer from Springs Wheelers finished the 35km race in first and second place.
Willie who entered the race as a veteran, came first with a time of 1.29:07.
Raymond came second in the open men’s category with a time of 1.30:33.
The cyclists crossed temporary floating bridge which was built the day before the race.
There were 96 cyclists who finished the 35km race.
When the Addie visited the floating bridge the cyclists crossing the bridge were full of mud, soaking wet, but yet determined to finish the race.
