Bowlers compete

The Springs Town Bowling Club hosted their prestige club championships which were played over three rounds on Saturday.

A total of 24 singles games to determine the Men’s and Women’s Open Singles Club Champions were played over two days.

According to competition secretary, Izak Hattingh, all the bowling clubs compete in this competition before October.

It takes a few months to complete the championships, however, the committee decided to play all the men and women singles over one weekend in round robin fashion.

“The players were divided into sections of three players, which mean no one can be eliminated when they lose a game, but rather gets a second chance to play in the finals on Sunday,” he says.

There were three women and four men who were section winners on Saturday.

Emma Ragusa, Monica Rudolph and Tokkie Hattingh played three games in the sudden death finals on Sunday.

Monica lost against Emma, who then had to face Tokkie in the finals.

Tokkie was crowned the Women’s Open Singles Club Champion with Emma as runner-up.

Chris Serfontein lost against Izak Hattingh and Hennie Greyling lost against Okkie Nel, leaving Okkie and Izak to face each other in the final.

At the end of a warm, but long day, Okkie was the winner of the Men’s Open Singles with Izak as runner-up.

These two days were a huge success and the committee will definitely consider this again for the following season.

“We might even try to expand this further into our other competitions,” adds Izak.
