Bert Collins tournaments draws boxers from across Gauteng
The Bert Collins Boxing Club hosted a development tournament open to Gauteng clubs on Saturday.
Springs boxer Clayton Meyer lost 1-0 on points against Siyabonga Ncube of the Southern Suburbs Boxing Club in Johannesburg.
Meyer firmly stood his ground against an opponent who was much taller than himself.
“He has the heart of a lion and will one day leave the ring a champion,” says Bert Collins club chairman and coach Jeanette Dyzel.
Due to Jason Meyer being unfit, the referee had to stop his fight due to a technical knockout against Thulani Mdluki of Cosmo City Boxing Club in Johannesburg.
“Although this fight was a 100% improvement over the last fight, Meyer said that he needed to work on his fitness,” says Jeanette.

According to Jeanette his boxing was outstanding and the youngster was ahead on points, but stopped during the last 10 seconds of the last round which left the judge with no choice but to call the fight.
Jeanette says he also has the potential to become a champion one day.
Adriaan Colyn defeated Alpha Masamba of Southern Suburbs 3-0 on points.
Geanne Dicks also won 3-0 on points against Hester Botha of Witpoortjie in West Gauteng.
Geanne, along with her sister Minnet Dicks and Adriaan are in the school team that will compete in the South African Championships to be held at the University of the Witwatersrand in December.
“The club is very proud of these three and wish them luck and prosperity,” says Jeanette.
