Springs rugby to start Valke league

The Springs Rugby Club’s first team played against the University of Pretoria’s (Tuks) first team on Friday evening at 7.30pm.

Springs put up a good fight, but Tuks managed to beat the local team 38-7.

Francois Prinsloo managed to score a try for Springs during the first half of the game.

André Smith completed the conversion, securing the first and final points for Springs for the evening.

Rudolph Cronje, from the Springs Rugby Club, says the game was played against a strong university that has a big pool to choose players from, whereas Springs has 25 players to choose from.

Ockert Brits, the team’s coach, says keeping in mind that the men played against a quality team who is unbeaten in the Carlton Super League, they played a good match.

“It was also our last game in the Carlton League,” says Brits.

He adds that they are starting with the Valke Peregrine Super League this weekend.

“We will be playing home against the North-West University (Pukke).

“We hope to bring everything we learned in the Carlton league to the Valke League.”
