Interested boxers invited to join team

“We want to help groom and develop a world-renowned female boxer, but we are not able to achieve that goal if they are not taking an interest,” he said.

Kwa-Thema – Scorpion Boxing Club is encouraging young boxers, especially women, to join their club.

The club offers training Mondays to Fridays from 4pm at the Kwa-Thema Community Hall.

Club founder Hazert Hlophe said he is concerned about the small number of girls taking an interest in the sport.

“Out of a group of 25 new boxers who recently joined the club, only three were girls.

“We want to remove the misconception that boxing is only for men.

“We want to help groom and develop a world-renowned female boxer, but we are not able to achieve that goal if they are not taking an interest,” he said.

“This would make it easy to have a relationship with the coaches and know what is expected as parents.

“We all need to play a role in grooming these children in becoming model citizens and the champions they are destined to be.

“We are also pleading with local business people to help us with donations for equipment and funds to attend matches,” he said.
