Crossfit RAG box opens a whole new world of fitness

Badenhorst said they work with the average Joe and elite athletes who want to perform better.

A casual invitation from a friend to try Crossfit turned into a full-time career for Jacques Badenhorst.
Being the owner of the Crossfit Rise and Grind (RAG) on Pienaar Road is the culmination of his life’s passion and dreams.
“We have been here for a year and it’s now my full-time career.
“I’ve been doing Crossfit for five years and am a certified level two coach.
“Since I started, I’ve been hooked and decided to start coaching eight months after I started,” said Badenhorst.
He is also working on getting his certificate in personal training, just as an extra credential to help people.
According to Badenhorst, one of the main advantages of Crossfit is that to become a coach, you need to have done Crossfit before and to keep your certification as a coach, you need to update it yearly and reach a certain level of points.

“What makes us different from a normal gym is that we mainly do group classes.
“What makes Crossfit so great is that it’s for all shapes and sizes.
“Nobody packs away until we have all finished and we all cheer for each other.
“It’s a nice vibe,” said Badenhorst.

Becoming stronger is one of the benefits of doing Crossfit and that will also help you in your day-to-day life. Jacques Badenhorst is the owner of the Crossfit box in Selection Park.

From anywhere in the world, participants can test themselves against the rest of the world in the open category, which is the biggest online competition in Crossfit and has over 230 000 entries worldwide.
“Although the competition element of it is there, it’s more about health and fitness and reaching your personal best,” said Badenhorst.

It also uses a variety of sports to get each participant fit and healthy, but also to help them avoid getting bored of working out.
Badenhorst said they work with the average Joe and elite athletes who want to perform better.
“I’ve seen my own sport improve because of the work I’ve put in with Crossfit,” said Badenhorst.
Badenhorst believes the best way to experience Crossfit is to try it for at least a month, three times a week and offers introductory online classes.
Due to Covid-19, each class has 12 people, to keep it small.
Besides Crossfit, his two other main passions are karate and self-defence, in which he trains women and children.
The new box is on 3 Pienaar Road, in the industrial area of Selection Park.
