Springs Tigers U13s went head-to-head with Olympia for the final game of the Easterns Local Football Association (ELFA) away at Bedfordview on September 20, where the Tigers roared to a 4-1 victory.

The game kicked off when the Tigers’ Phando Nzukuma scored the opening goal, putting his team ahead. Olympia seized an opportunity and scored an equaliser.

Olympia’s defence was no match for Nzukuma, as he scored a second goal before the first half ended.

In the second half, Botlhale Ntswane and Samkelisiwe Masango secured two goals for the Tigers, ending the season on a high note.

Tigers coach Elijah Ngobeni told the Springs Advertiser that he is proud of the boys for this game. He said the team worked hard in training and showed real hunger and determination.

“I am honoured to have these players because they have shown me that anything is possible in life when you are determined.

“Our recent results gave us the belief that we could come back and get a win in this game, and we have improved tremendously.

“Some of the teams that beat us by as many as 15 goals in the first leg struggled against us in the second leg,” expressed Ngobeni.

He explained that the team started the season poorly. He believes that if they had started the season the way they finished it, they would have been competing for the championship.

The U13 will be participating in the Serengeti Tournament in Kempton Park from October 10 to 11.

The coach hopes that the team can carry this same momentum into the Serengeti Tournament.

“I truly believe these boys deserve something after the way they have turned their season around.”
