ATM bombing in Bakerton

The Absa ATM in First Avenue in Bakerton was bombed early on Wednesday morning.

Captain Johannes Ramphora of the Springs police says the bombing next to FM Supermarket took place at around 1am.

He says the owner of the shop claims he heard the explosion and feared for his life, so he didn’t go out to check what was happening.

“An ADT security guard who was at the Caltex garage across the street from the ATM, says he saw three men with firearms around the ATM at the time of the bombing,” says Capt Ramphora.

It is alleged that the bombers used a green BMW to flee the scene.

“At this stage it is still unknown how much money the robbers took from the ATM,” says Capt Ramphora.

No arrests have been made and the police urge anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of these robbers to contact the Springs police on 011 365 5700.
