Don’t let the delicious cuisine pass you by
Restaurant: Macau Cuisine Location: Springsgate Shopping Centre Special feature reviewed: Sushi bar Reviewed by: Samantha Keogh
Macau Cuisine, which has been thrilling Springsite’s taste buds for some time, has moved to accommodate their brand new sushi bar conveyor belt.
The Chinese restaurant remains in the the Springsgate Shopping Centre but has moved to a larger shop, closer to the other food outlets at the entrance to the centre.
With far more space, the owners have now added the sushi bar where patrons can enjoy watching the food being made, grab whatever takes their fancy as it glides past and delight in taste explosions.
When I wrote about the restaurant last year, I spoke of the value for money coupled with amazing quality and taste.
Nothing has changed since then and this remains one of my favourite spots to grab a bite in Springs – whether its to sit in or take out.
This new addition brings a little more excitement to the art of eating sushi and makes for a fascinating meal as you consider each new offering passing you by and try to time grabbing the best looking items before they whizz past and are snapped up by another equally eager patron.
The tasty morsels are reasonably priced according to the colour of the plate with Red, at only R8.50, offering vegatable, avo and cucumber combinations.
Prices increase as you move onto blue, green, orange (looked yellow to me) and finally black plates which each offering tempting treats.
While a black plate will set you back R36.50, it will also offer some of the best tastes including salmon or tuna roses (my favourite), sashimi and wasabi parcels.
My colleague and I thoroughly enjoyed the choices on offer and tried almost every combination they had on offer – a tall order given that what looks like a small portion can be very filling when taking four or five plates.
True to form, the food was delicious and wonderfully fresh.
This certainly remains one of my top two favourite sushi restaurants, both on the East Rand and in the greater Gauteng area.
Macau Cuisine never fails to impress, leaving every sushi lover with a delicious taste in their mouth and dreams of returning.
