Company says farewell to Springs with a clean-up

“Springs has been amazing to us and we love giving back wherever we can,” says Kimberly Green, social media assistant and one of the participants in the challenge.

A few years ago, a company called UCO Gear reportedly created the #Trashtag initiative in an effort to clean up the environment and to protect wildlife globally.

Fast-track to a few years later, March 10, Byron Roman triggers this amazing trend on Facebook by posting a before-and-after image of the dirty area that he has now cleaned up.

He had a full nine green refuse bags next to him to prove it.

He titled his post ‘Here is a new #challenge for all you bored teens. Take a photo of an area that needs some cleaning or maintenance, then take a photo after you have done something about it, and post it.’

It was eventually shared over 300 000 times.

“We fall far from the category of bored teens; however, love our environment, so we hopped on the trend.

“We took to the streets of Springs on March 26 and spent our lunchtime making a difference.

“After sweating and sharing a good laugh at the things one could find in the trash, we collected an astounding 30 refuse bags of trash.

“Since our company is moving, we thought we would do one final good deed for the community before we leave.

“Springs has been amazing to us and we love giving back wherever we can,” says Kimberly Green, social media assistant and one of the participants in the challenge.

Green went on to say she hopes that this inspires others to do their bit for their neighbourhood.

The company is moving to Bedfordview.
