Springs dancers gain high marks at Easter Dance Cup

Dance instructor Mariska Wolmarans is proud of her dancers.

Dance Directions studio dancers flourished at the recent National Dance Society South Africa competition, the Easter Dance Cup, held on April 12 at the Ferndale Recreation Centre.

The students fared exceptionally well, with Mieke Weyers obtaining 86% for both contemporary and disco, 93% for Bhangra, 88% for Jazz and 89% for both hip-hop and the open category.

She received a bronze medal in jazz improvisation and a gold medal in hip-hop improvisation. She was also named the Easter Cup alternative dancer of the day.

Esmarie Conradie received 85% for contemporary, 84% for hip-hop, 94% for lyrical, 91% for Bhangra, 84% for the open category and 90% for her hip-hop duet with Roland le Roux.

Hope Bailey scored first place in hip-hop with a 91% and 93% in her open routine.

Both Mieke and Esmarie received their national colours from last year’s Easter Cup and nationals, and now qualify to receive them again this year.
