City of Ekurhuleni confirms official banking details amid scam warnings
Residents are urged not to act on unverified notices about new accounts, with the city stressing that all payments must be made only through approved channels and verified platforms.
The City of Ekurhuleni has noted with concern misleading information circulating about the city’s municipal banking arrangements and payment channels.
The city wishes to place on record that it banks with Standard Bank.
Residents are urged not to act on unverified social media posts, WhatsApp messages, or informal notices claiming that municipal banking details have changed.
Residents must treat any message requesting payment into unfamiliar bank accounts, personal accounts, or newly circulated account details as suspicious.
The city will communicate official payment information only through its approved communication platforms and customer service channels.
The city further reminds residents that municipal accounts may be paid through the following approved channels:
- Residents may use the Siyakhokha online platform, which allows customers to view, manage, download and pay municipal accounts electronically. The platform supports once-off payments, recurring debit orders and other online payment options.
- Payments may also be made at Customer Care Centres, through direct banking platforms such as internet banking, bank branches, ATMs and mobile banking apps, as well as through approved third-party payment vendors.
- For retail store payments, residents are advised that the old EasyPay prefix 91339 is no longer operational. Customers using retail payment channels must use the approved Pay@ prefix 11544 together with their municipal account number, or use approved platforms such as Cigicell’s Unipay and Blupay, using the municipal account number as the reference.
The city also reminds residents that when making direct internet banking payments, they must use their municipal account number only as the reference to avoid payments being incorrectly allocated.
Residents are encouraged to verify payment details before making any payment. Any suspicious messages should be ignored and reported to the city’s official customer care channels.
