Springs karatekas win big at global virtual e-kata championship
Eleven members of the Pan-African Shotokan Karate Federation brought home gold, silver and bronze medals after competing against 28 countries in the virtual Rotal WKMF World E-Kata Karate Championship.
Pan-African Shotokan Karate Federation members were this year’s virtual Royal WKMF World E-Kata Karate champions.
Eleven members, including five girls aged seven to 14 and six senseis, represented the country and the town against 28 countries last month.
The championship was a virtual tournament, which required the selected karatekas and sensei to record themselves from their local dojo and then submit their videos.
They received their results this month. The members received bronze, silver and gold medals across several categories.
Sensei Michael Cindi expressed his pride.
“Through prayer and support from parents, we managed to win. As the first dojo to win this virtual championship, we are extremely proud, and this will motivate the students to continue to strive for the best,” he said.
