Almost time for masters fly fishing championship
The Championship will be just one of the fishing disciplines that will be undertaken during the World Angling Games

It is just short of a month to the first cast of the World Masters Fly Fishing Championship which will take place in Dullstroom.
The Championship will be just one of the fishing disciplines that will be undertaken during the World Angling Games which South Africa will host from February 9 to 15.
The World Angling Games are the “Olympics of Fishing” and are hosted by a different nation every four years.
The games will start on Saturday, February 9 with the official opening ceremony in Sandton, Johannesburg and will then be dispersed across the country as chosen by the federations of each fishing discipline.

The Masters Fly Fishing Championship, hosted by South African Fly Fishing Association (SAFFA) will take place in the Emakhazeni District of Mpumalanga.
The fly fishing itinerary commences on February 10 with a street parade by the participating nations, along with local cultural and school groups in support.
This will be followed by a lunch reception for the participants hosted by the mayor of Emakhazeni.
Participating nations for fly fishing include teams from Ireland, USA, Australia, Italy, Netherlands, Spain and South Africa as hosts have both a mens’ and ladies’ team entered. Each team is made up of four fly anglers whom will rotate on the four fishing sectors over the two days.
The fly fishing will comprise of three lake sessions and a river beat session for each angler, taking place respectively on Dullstroom Dam, The Lochs, Nooitgedacht Dam and the Spekboom River.
The program includes an official practice day for the anglers on Monday with the competition sessions taking place on Tuesday and Thursday.
In between there is a rest day for anglers to strategize after day one, take in some of the many tourist activities offered in the area, and attend a conservation symposium in the early evening.
A visit for all teams to the Kruger National Park will take place on Friday, where the participants will be treated to a full morning game drive and finger lunch at one of South Africa’s most renowned destinations.
The championship will then draw to a close with a medal ceremony and gala dinner that evening at the Equestrian Centre, Dunkeld Estate.
