Carwash, local pub and smoking area

A business is a good way to make money for survival.

That very business should not be an infringement on the rights of others that are faced with the results of such a business.

A carwash has been opened along Merriedale Street in Tasbet Park 2 and not only is it the cars that are washed there, there is drinking and smoking of illegal substances there too. A few residents that reside near that area have laid numerous complaints, especially about the sight of what goes on there. “We do not mind the carwash there, it is the public drinking and smoking of cigarettes and other things that we do not want to see,” said one resident.

The car wash was recently opened and the area where it operates used to just be an open field. Ever since the opening, the area has become so busy and with the availability of a bottle store nearby, the sight of young adults drinking from morning to night, is one that causes for sore eyes. The residents have complained and fear for their safety, as they do not know now who lives in the area and who does not and who is actually there to be part the unruly activities, which go on from early in the morning.

Attempts to get a hold of the owner of the carwash were fruitless. “The municipality is looking into these new businesses and the appropriate measures will be taken for those disrupting the peace of the neighbourhood,” said municipal spokesperson, Lebohang Mofokeng.
