On March 27 two men were sentenced to five years’ imprisonment. They were arrested on September 30 after they broke into the house of a Ga-Nala resident while he was out.
When the man returned home, he found that his house had been broken into and his flat-screen television set, laptop and clothes were all stolen. The items were worth thousands of rands.
The police investigation led them to a house where the accused was selling the stolen goods.
The men were arrested and the stolen items were later identified by the complainant and returned to him. Dumisane Mahlalela and Bhuti William Libiyane were charged with residential burglary and found guilty in the Kriel Magistrate’s Court. The two men were both sentenced to five years’ imprisonment and declared unfit to possess a firearm.
On the same day another successful conviction took place at the magistrate’s court.
Lincon Madiba was arrested for culpable homicide on February 27 last year when he overtook a truck on a narrow road heading into Kriel and collided with an oncoming vehicle.
The passenger was declared dead on the scene. Madiba was found guilty and sentenced to pay R12000 fine or 16 months’ imprisonment of which R6 000 or eight months was suspended for five years.
During the Kriel SAPS daily operations they managed to arrested eight suspects last week for various crimes. Some of the crimes include assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm, attempted murder and theft.
