Mr Andre McLeod withdrew R33 000 from the bank and made his way to his car parked at Highland Mews.
“Someone inside the bank at the time must have notified the thieves outside that I had drawn a large sum. They were told to look out for me,” said McLeod.
McLeod got into his bakkie and removed his wallet, placing it in the glove compartment.
“I was on my way to do business and decided to stop at home first,” continued McLeod.
McLeod parked his vehicle outside his house, he opened the gate and made his way into his house, in that moment he heard the sound of glass shattering and his bakkie’s alarm going off and ran to his bakkie.
“As I opened the large gate, I saw a green Mazda race off down the road. My neighbour came running out of her house, saying she had seen a man break into the bakkie and quickly get into the Mazda,” added McLeod.
The thieves got away with the cash that was in McLeod’s wallet. McLeod added that he would be visiting the bank to see if there was any footage that might assist with the investigation and believes that the thieves had followed him from the bank to his home, 14km away.
“I can’t believe I didn’t pick it up that I was being followed,” ended McLeod.
“We encourage the public to do electronic funds transfers (EFTs) instead of withdrawing large amounts of money from the bank. This will reduce the chances of them being targeted by these criminals,” said Sgt David Ratau, Witbank SAPS.
