eMalahleni pothole repair program May and June 2014.

As promised find attached the pothole program which is starting to roll out from tomorrow morning. We will start at the schools in Gordon road with the Yetmaster machines at 08:30 for these interested to see how this will work.

a. Municipal Departmental Roads programme: In the past two weeks we managed to increase the equipment available to them and they are dedicated over the next seven weeks to emergency repairs as well as the five main roads e.g. O R Tambo, Walter Sisulo, Voortrekker, Mandela, and Watermeyer. The total costs associated to these actions is R5 million.

b. District Municipal support programme: focusing on the reconstruction of a portion of the old Middelburg Road at a cost of R7 million. The District still needs to confirm the starting date of this project.

c. Municipal special resealing and pothole programme in Thubelihle, GaNala, starting this week and will reseal and patch all roads at a cost of R2.5 million. The contractor is Acto Phambili Roads.

d. The Velocity contract team will be fast rolling out a special Jetmaster sytem to repair potholes at a rate of 600 sq meter per day for the next 7 weeks as follow:

-Emalahleni Western and Eastern suburbs at 300 sq meters a day each for a total of 8 000 sq meters in each area. The streets targeted are main access roads, taxi routes, areas around hospitals, clinics and schools. If there are funding remaining after attending to the above more streets will be covered. The streets targeted as priority are the following:

Western Suburbs: a) Matthew Phosa Street, b) Shadrack Maelane Street, c) K. D Ndlovu Street, d) Chief Masango Street, e) Machibini Drive, f) P. N Ngobe Street, g) Moses Kotane Street, h) Willie Ackerman Drive, i) Botha, j) Johnson Drive, k) Luthuli Street, l) Seeke Street, m) Mlambo Street, n) Colins Street, o) Heynes Street, p) Thys Jonker Street and q) Hlalani excess road.
Eastern Suburbs: a) Gordon Street, b) Wattle Street, c) Heide Street, d) Mona Street, e) Bethal Street, f) Chistiaan de Wet Street, g) Rosse inns Street, h) Soar Street, i) Clarendow Street, j) Jellicoe Street, k) Colliery Street, l) Allenby Street, m) Coert Steynberg Street, n) Birkholtzs Street, o) Beatty Street, p) Steve Bantu Biko Street, q) Merriedale Street, r) Kiepersol Street, s) Springbok Street, t) Dixon Street, u) Gozel Street, v) Universe Street, w) Paul Sauer Street, x) Betsi Street, y) Nita Street, z) Angela Street, aa) Jan Lion Cachet Street, ab) Arnoldus Pannevis Street.

– Ogies/Phola 2 000 sq meters to be done once the above are completed as the machines will then move from Witbank to there. The priorities of roads will be finalised with the Unit manager and councillors in that area over the next week.

The total value of the above patching programme with the Yetmaster system is R5 million.
