Boat racers give a helping hand
Two power boat associations that are active in Mpumalanga decided to give back to the community by raising much needed money for two cancer patients that are both struggling with the disease.
The South African Pleasure Boat Association (SAPBA) and the Powerboat racing South Africa (PSA) hosted a very successful event on May 24 at Barham Bay on the Witbank Dam. They managed to race about R35 000 divided accordingly among the two patients and their.
On Monday, May 25 the organisers of the event visited 11 year old Gerye Lydeke and his family. He was diagnosed with a rare form of brain cancer. His mother and grandmother where overwhelmed with emotion when they received the R25 000. Unfortunately Hendrik Botha was apparently receiving chemo therapy on that day and his handover will take place next week.
“Yvonne Lydeke, Gerye’s grandmother who attended the event on his behalf said, the racing was just, wow.” The families are very grateful for the support from the power boating community and for the organiser’s generosity.
