Outnumbered and assaulted

A 50 year old man was assaulted by five men after he got into an argument with one of the attackers.

They assaulted him in the driveway of a plot where they were staying.

Basie Kruger and his wife returned to South Africa after more than a decade of living and working in Zambia. He was staying in a small flat owned by his sister and her husband in Kromdraai on their plot. According to the victim his landlords had a party on Saturday, June 7.

He was apparently not on good terms with one of the men who attended the party and after a brief argument the attacker suddenly hit Kruger through the face into his bakkie that was parked behind him, “I didn’t want to hit these guys so I grabbed him around the head to try and stop him,” said Kruger.

According to him the other four men jumped in, punching and kicking him forcing him to the floor. “One of them was standing on my face while I was on the ground,” said Kruger pointing to the bruises on his head.

An old, school friend rushed him to Witbank General Hospital for emergency treatment. He sustained a broken nose, a concussion, two broken ribs, and a fractured hip and many bruises. They also took blood samples and the results showed that he had not had any alcohol that night. “I have not drunk alcohol in over two years,” said Kruger.

Kruger knows all of the men who apparently assaulted him. A case has been opened at the police.
