The front page story on June 20 created a stir as the realization that buying drugs is only a click away, smacked readers right in the face with its bold advertising.
The Facebook page had 16 friends and the creator of the page let slip he is from Delmas.
Two days after WITBANK NEWS sent the creator of the Facebook page a message, he responded.
“Am not stupit, really do u think a drug dealer wil be so dump. Me am staying in delmas. Leave me alone.”
WITBANK NEWS took action and alerted Facebook of this page and its harmful content.
Shortly afterwards the creator’s message was replaced by the following: “This message is no longer available because it was identified as abusive or marked as spam”.
Facebook has strong community standards in place which prohibit the promotion or encouragement of self-mutilation, eating disorders or hard drug abuse.
All 16 Facebook users, who befriended the page, were contacted by WITBANK NEWS via messages on Facebook.
One of them, a 19-year-old estate agent from Middelburg responded to the message: “Hi there sorry to come back to you only now. I don’t have any idea who opened the page. This was just interesting…”
The community was enraged about the Facebook page.
“As a community we are not doing enough to protect children from drug substances because we the community we are the ones who are victims but at the end we hide the ones who sell those drug from being caught by police, and again those who sell drug they have connections with police through selling those drugs,” Fanafuthi Ngwane wrote.
Lizzie Ridgard wrote, “As a parent I don’t think the SAPS is doing enough effort to protect our children against drugs. U can get drugs everywhere u go. And on FB. The SAPS must wake up and do their duty but they are asleep. SAPS get a wake up.”
Audrey Jansen van Vuuren is of the opinion that children must be educated about drug abuse, “It’s a disgrace but its not only sap job it must b a community project. Every parent must b aware of what happening to their children and start talking an educating them”.
Colin Meaden said the manufacturers and distributors of drugs should face the death penalty.”
*The police are still busy with a full investigation into the person who created the Facebook page.
