Mr Johan Prinsloo contacted WITBANK NEWS about a ‘mineshaft’ situated right outside his yard in Gemini Street, Reyno Ridge.
“My house and garden were overrun by water, either from a storm water manhole collapse or water pipe burst in February. The city council dug up the manhole in front of the entrance to my property and left it at that,” said Prinsloo.
Prinsloo made numerous attempts at contacting the municipality to come rectify the mess they had left behind, these included SMSs, photographs and phone calls.
“To date I cannot get them to fix the manhole. The whole manhole needs to be rebuilt before the hole (it looks like a mine shaft) can be filled and rehabilitated,” he continued.
According to Prinsloo, this hole not only poses a safety risk to the community, especially that of children, but also devaluates the surrounding properties day by day.
“What is wrong with the city council? I pay my rates and taxes every month and this is the service I get,” added Prinsloo.
Prinsloo is currently staying in Lephalale and as an example he added that the moment something breaks, by tomorrow the problem is solved.
Emalahleni Municipality has replied, saying they contacted Prinsloo regarding the matter.
