A driver was heading home when she was met by a shock on the road. A young man allegedly walked in front of the moving vehicle as it went past Schoonland Drive off-ramp. The woman was heading home with her eight-year-old son when the man just jumped in front of her on July 23 at about 14:45.
“He came from nowhere and I knew I had hit someone as the bang on the car was very loud. I stopped and saw the taxi behind me screech to a stop,” said the woman who wished not to be named.
After being hit by the woman’s vehicle, the man apparently flew a few metres high before being hit by the second vehicle, which also dragged him some metres along the N4, before it came to a stop. Paramedics from Emergency Medical Services were on scene and the man was declared dead on their arrival.
Mr Sbusiso Maziya, the driver of the taxi, said that he did not see the man but just felt that he hit something. It was only when he stopped that he realised that he had hit a person.
The deceased was identified only as Thulani by an uncle who came to the scene after receiving news of the accident.
It is alleged that the deceased was not mentally stable.
