Smoke causes six-car pile up
A huge veldt fire occurred last week, visibility was poor causing a six-car pile up on the highway.
On Thursday, July 31 afternoon many people were travelling to Pretoria on the N4 highway.
When the drivers approached Balmoral off-ramp they could see thick smoke in the distance, covering the highway.
As the cars drove through the smoke, the first driver could not see so from the fast lane moved over into the island, until it cleared.
Another vehicle towing a trailer also pulled over behind the first vehicle.
Minutes later, a driver in a gold Mini was overwhelmed by the smoke and could not see anything when she collided with the back of the trailer, which pushed the vehicle into the back of the other car.
Three other cars then collided with the back of the Mini that was standing in the fast lane.
Within minutes the smoke cleared up and the six drivers could see what damage was done to their vehicles.
One passenger was taken to Life Cosmos Hospital for further treatment to his injuries.
