“The security company confirmed that they received the house alert at about 20:25 and called me 10 minutes later to confirm that my home had been broken into,” said Van der Heever.
On Wednesday, July 23 Van der Heever was at his work premises when he received the call from the security company saying that his home had been broken into in Del Judor Extension 23.
“They broke into my house in search of my car keys, they opened every drawer and cupboard before finding the keys inside a pot on top of the refrigerator,” he continued.
According to Van der Heever, no other items were stolen except for the GPS that was in his Volkswagen Golf 1.4I Velocity, which had been stolen.
“They would have had to push start it, the battery was flat, the car had been standing for over a week and the sound system drains on the battery,” he added.
The red Velocity is circulated with registration FWZ 409 MP.
Van der Heever noted that a neighbour said he saw a white Volkswagen Jetta in the area of his home. It had Gauteng number plates, and he believes it was involved in the theft since the alarm went off round about the same time it drove off.
In another incident Mr Thomas Mashilwane reported his white Mazda bakkie stolen from the parking lot on OR Tambo Street, Klipfontein. He had gone into the nearby store and when he returned to where he had parked his vehicle, he noticed someone driving it past him. The bakkie is valued at R99 000 and registration is DDG 904 MP.
