Business burglaries are a concern for many business owners and managers in eMalahleni as Witbank SAPS receive weekly reports regarding this crime.
On August 2 just before 08:00 two employees arrived at work to open the shop, however they soon found that there had been a burglary.
The office space was in a mess and the daily safe was gone. They also found a hole in the ceiling where the burglars entered the shop. At the back of the shop they found the safe inside a trolley.
According to the shop manager the palisade fence at the back was also damaged, as if the thieves tried unsuccessfully to get the heavy safe through the palisades and left it there. It seems they did not try to steal anything else such as electronics or other kind of stock, but were focused on the money in the safe.
This is the second burglary at Pet and Pool Hyper in less than a year where the thieves entered the shop through the roof exactly as they did before.
The police were contacted shortly after the crime was discovered. The shop has a surveillance system and the police are set to conduct an investigation based on the footage that was recorded.
Pet and Pool Hyper would like to warn other businesses to be vigilant and guard their properties against burglaries. Although business burglaries are much more common in the Central Business District (CBD), there have even been reports this week of a burglary at Highveld Mall.
